Overview
The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) as part of the National Library of Medicine (NLM) has launched a multi-year effort to modernize our website with a focus on improving your experience, so you can find and access NCBI resources quickly and easily.

This Beta represents the first phase of our modernization effort and provides an opportunity for you to test it out and let us know what you think. This includes the NCBI homepage and the ‘About NCBI’ pages. Additional pages and applications will be migrated over time. We want to hear from you! Your feedback will help inform improvements.

- Follow federal law and base our design system on the U.S. Web Design System - consistent with other federal websites
Phases
Phase 1 - Release Beta Homepage
- Introduce newly designed NCBI homepage and ‘About NCBI’ pages
- Legacy homepage will remain the default homepage during this beta phase
- Gradually increase public awareness of the beta site through various communication channels and links from the legacy site
Phase 2 - Incremental Improvements
- Collect input from you
- Make ongoing improvements based on your feedback
- Expand the content on the beta site with:
- New content and navigation
- Existing content from legacy pages
Phase 3 - Beta Site is Primary
- Newly designed NCBI homepage will now display as the default view
- You will have access to the legacy pages for a limited time as you adjust to the new look and enhanced user experience
- Continue to collect input from you
- Continue to make updates / add features
Phase 4 - Beta is Over!
- Newly designed NCBI homepage and ‘About NCBI’ pages replace the legacy versions
- Legacy view will no longer be available
Phase 5 - Post Launch
We’re not done when the beta is over!
- Will continue to add new pages and migrate content from our legacy pages onto the new site over time
- Will continue to collect your feedback and make updates/improvements
